Death Cab For Cutie Interview on New Moon

"Meet Me on the Equinox" single of Death Cab for Cutie is the first single included in upcoming "New Moon" soundtrack which will premiere in MTV September 13. Chris Walla, Death Cab for Cutie's guitarist tells MTV that the band was invited to screen a five-hour-long cut of 'Twilight' sequel and the Team Jacob vs Team Edward.

"OK, so again, having only finished the second book, I feel like I'm sort of out on a limb a little bit, because I haven't started the third book," Walla told MTV News. "So I'm really excited to see the film and sort of see if I feel like I'm still out on a limb. Like, I love Jacob. He's great. In the middle of the book, he's the one who's taking care of Bella, and, like, where's Edward? What is he doing? What an a--hole! But he comes through in the end, and, you know, we'll see what happens."

So there you go: Chris Walla thinks Edward Cullen is an a--hole. And that wasn't the only revelation Walla had for us on the "Equinox" set. Apparently, there currently exists a five-hour version of the "New Moon" film — and, no, he hasn't seen it either.

"We were invited to see a cut that was five hours long. It didn't have any effects or Foley or music or anything in it. And we couldn't make the schedule work, because it was five hours long," Walla laughed. "We haven't seen anything more than anyone else has seen. We've seen the trailer, and that's really about it. ... I think the trailer looks great. There was the one scene where Jacob explodes into the werewolf, and it's like, 'How are they gonna pull that off? What are they gonna do?' And it looks great. So I feel like the whole thing is really going to work."

Kiowa Gordon Reveals own Colors of New Moon wolf pack

Kiowa Gordon plays the role of Embry Call, one of the wolf among Quileute buddies talk to MTV about New Moon and their distinctive colors so you can tell the wolves apart.

MTV: You and the other wolves are new to the "Twilight" series. Did you look to Taylor for inspiration, since he'd already been through a movie?

Kiowa Gordon: Yeah. And he's really buff, so we look to that too. [Laughs.]

MTV: You looked to his buffness for inspiration? We've seen you guys without your shirts on, so obviously it helped.

Gordon: Yeah, well, when we showed up, they were like, "We got you a personal trainer. You guys are gonna train hard!" And so we were like, "Sweet, we get to work out!" And it was really fun.

MTV: Now that filming is done, how do you think "New Moon" is going to turn out, particularly your scenes?

Gordon: Well, our scenes were the most fun, I think, out of the whole movie, probably. I'm looking forward to seeing it in completion, because it looks great from what I've seen — all the photos, everything looks awesome.

MTV: The "Twilight" series has done a good job so far of hiring actual Native American actors to play the Quileute tribe. Can you tell us about your background?

Gordon: I am Hualapai. We are located in Northern Arizona, at the Grand Canyon. We own the Skywalk area. When I was growing up, my mom tried teaching us [the language], all my seven siblings and I. But we just laughed at her, because it sounded funny to us. Now, I'm kind of sad that I couldn't learn it, because it's a dying language. So, hopefully, I'll get to learn it sometime soon.

MTV: Do you have any scenes in "New Moon" with Kristen or Rob?

Gordon: No, nothing with Rob. We don't meet the vampires yet. We know [the Cullens], and we don't like them, so we don't like playing with them. But Kristen and Taylor, we have a couple scenes together.

MTV: You're joining this big, massive fanbase with an already-tight group of stars. How accepting were they of you rookies?

Gordon: We had a big dinner together, the whole cast and the director and the producers. And we all got to know each other and just become friends, basically. Now I have some friends for life. It's really awesome.

MTV: How about the fans?

Gordon: I guess I've been welcomed with open arms. A couple weeks after getting announced out there to the public that I got the role, a girl actually tattooed my name on her back with a paw print!

MTV: Your real name, not Embry's?

Gordon: Yeah! It was like, "Whoa!" And now I have my own team of supporters, for some reason.

MTV: The movie hasn't even come out yet! Does that put extra pressure on you to make sure your performance doesn't suck?

Gordon: Yeah, then they're gonna [want to remove the tattoos]. Maybe she'd cut it off. [Laughs.]

MTV: We've seen Taylor as a wolf in the "New Moon" trailer, but what are the rest of you guys going to look like?

Gordon: Well, we all look like brothers, so [we'll look similar], but we all have our own colors, so you can [tell which is which]. It's distinctive.

'We all have our own colors,' the 'Twilight' rookie says of his wolf pack brothers.

MTV:Top 10 'Twilight' Moments

Spunk Ransom Is Born
In one of his first interviews for the "Twilight" franchise, MTV News had nearly an hour alone with the soon-to-be A-lister on the set of the film. Among the many questions we brought him was: "What do you think of your nickname RPattz?" He responded in his usual charming, rambling manner, insisting that he wanted a new nickname: Spunk Ransom. The term has stuck, been officially defined, yielded some very cool "Twilight" merch and is reportedly the easiest way to get a smile out of Rob — er, Spunk — if you should ever meet him.

Don't Count Out Taylor
Barely a month after "Twilight" opened at the top of the box office, young Taylor Lautner had become the J.D. Salinger of the series — disappearing from the spotlight and leaving many to wonder whether we'd see him again. Just when the consensus among fans seemed to be that his role would be recast with a more physically impressive actor like Michael Copon, we found Taylor at a tiny red-carpet event. Noticeably larger, he revealed that he'd been working out around-the-clock, was about to meet with "New Moon" director Chris Weitz and vowed to return as Jacob. Finally, "Twilight" Nation could breath a sigh of relief.

Kristen's Near-Death Experience
We all know that Kristen Stewart is a great dramatic actress, but when she said that filming the next film "killed me," that took it to a whole new level. As KStew's quotes rocketed around the Web, Twilighters became even more eager to see her "New Moon" performance.

Fach's Bikini Incident
Peter Facinelli. A one-of-a-kind Twitter bet. A grown man in a bikini dancing down Hollywood Boulevard. Need we say more?

Catherine's Pimp Pad
Who else but MTV could get exclusive access to Catherine Hardwicke's house/office, the place where the "Twilight" movie phenomenon began? The affable director generously opened her home and gave us a tour of the backyard where Lautner auditioned, the dining room where KStew read her lines — and the bed where she and RPattz first kissed.

The RPattz Surprise
In May 2008, we held a contest and landed "Twilight" fan Laura Culpepper as our guest correspondent. But what she didn't know is that we had arranged for Rob himself to tiptoe in behind Laura while she recorded an on-camera segment and give her a sneak peek at "Twilight." Without a doubt, this is one of the most memorable pieces of video in all the "Twilight" fandom, revealing Rob's fun side.

Name Those Fans
Once upon a time, an epic battle raged between Twilighters and Twi-Hards over which was the proper name for the fanbase. Since we're peacemakers as well as journalists, we held an epic poll to settle the matter once and for all. Rob, Kristen and the other stars of the series announced the results — and it's been Twilighters ever since.

A Special Spoilers Evening
To celebrate the conclusion of all those very special Twilight Tuesdays, MTV gave a few hundred Twilighters the chance to attend a taping of our movie special "Spoilers." All the stars were there, it was a night to remember, and the show continues on as the renamed "Behind the Screen," which airs Friday and focuses on films such as "Jennifer's Body."

RPattz Needs Undies
Last November, we reunited Rob and Laura for a revealing interview that may have been, well, a bit too revealing. Ever wonder about Rob's toenails, his parking-ticket troubles or his underwear? Well, then, you need to watch this.

100 Monkeys Hit MTV
As his fans know, the only thing more fun than watching Jackson Rathbone act may be seeing him in concert. Which is why we were eager to go backstage and onstage to watch his band 100 Monkeys perform at a club in Hollywood. Since then, we've caught the band again at TwiCon and spoke to him recently about the Monkeys' plans to score his new movie. Rock on, Jackson!

Exclusive expanded "New Moon" trailer at 2009 MTV Video Music Awards

Twilight cast Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner will be attending the Video Music Awards to unveil a never-before-seen trailer for "New Moon".

"Twilight" stars Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner will appear on the show to debut an exclusive expanded trailer for "New Moon," the second film in Summit Entertainment's vampire saga.

We'll repeat that slowly for you: Fresh "New Moon" footage. Pattinson. Stewart. Lautner. Boom!

The film's first trailer premiered during this year's MTV Movie Awards, and now the 26th annual VMAs are shaping up to be another bonanza for devoted Twilighters. On the day of the show, MTV.com will debut the first single off the "New Moon" soundtrack, the Death Cab for Cutie tune "Meet Me on the Equinox." Based the second book in Stephenie Meyer's supernatural series, "New Moon" is set for release on November 20, while the soundtrack drops on October 20.

Jackson Rathbone Dives Into 'Jasper's Backstory' For 'Eclipse'

Jackson Rathbone a.k.a Jasper Hale of Twilight Saga talks to MTV about his preparations on filming the movie Eclipse like horse riding practice and shooting some Civil War stuff.

We don't need to have our emotions influenced to know that Jasper Hale Whitlock is one of Stephenie Meyer's greatest creations. A 166-year-old Civil War veteran whose transformation and redemption is a key theme in the later "Twilight" novels, the character has long been a fan favorite. Which made it all the more appropriate when the franchise landed Jackson Rathbone, a 24-year-old actor/musician whose affable, easygoing charm has made him equally popular in Twilight Nation.

Recently, we caught up with Jackson as he was preparing to begin work on "Eclipse," the currently filming third chapter in the blockbuster saga. What follows are some major plot revelations from the next two films — including his fight scene with Kellan Lutz, exposing Japer's powers earlier than you might think and how to kill one of David Slade's newborn vampires.

MTV: Jackson, what are you most looking forward to shooting in the next film?

Jackson Rathbone: I'm really excited to start filming "Eclipse." I got a chance to read the script, and we get to go back into Jasper's backstory. They actually had to ask me about my equestrian experience. I told them I can gallop and trot and all that. I used to ride. It's been two or three years since I've been on a horse, but I'm excited to get back up on the saddle.

MTV: So we're going to get to Jasper's Civil War backstory?

Rathbone: Yes, I get to shoot some Civil War stuff, and I'm also going to shoot a lot of fighting scenes. Which is great, because I just came off [M. Night Shyamalan's] "The Last Airbender," and I've been doing fighting for the last six months. So I'm ready to keep it on.

MTV: What kind of moves will you be pulling off? Just shooting guns? Obviously, it won't be highly-stylized martial arts stuff.

Rathbone: No, it won't be karate, it won't be kung fu, like the stuff we're doing in "Airbender." But even in "Airbender," the fighting styles I was doing were a little bit more loose, like street fighting. And that's kind of what this is; it's about evading.

MTV: Why is that?

Rathbone: Well, we're talking about newborn vampires that can't control their urges — they can't really think very quickly. So if you just let them go to their instincts and evade and attack them from side to side, you could get them; but if you try and go after them through force, they're going to win every time. So it's all about evasion.

MTV: Are there training scenes in "Eclipse" along these lines?

Rathbone: It's interesting; there's a lot of cool scenes where Jasper trains the Cullen family on how to fight the newborns. He gets to train Emmett — and Emmett is a born fighter — so he's telling Emmett all these techniques, and Emmett thinks he could just best Jasper [during their sparring]. Jasper ends up getting the best of him, because it's a war mentality, not just a street brawl. It's about thinking ahead; it's a chess game.

MTV: Cool. Will we see the scene where Jasper gets bitten?

Rathbone: Oh yeah, we have to see that. It's going to be great. I've been studying up a lot on the Civil War and that era. It really was a crazy time. It was all-out war on our own turf and between countrymen. That's terrible. It's an interesting time to see when Jasper was actually human and what his human form was and, when he gets turned, how intense and how dark he is. Then [we'll see] his realization of what he's become, him finding Alice and being redeemed by love.

MTV: And is that the first time we'll see your powers?

Rathbone: Actually, in "New Moon," we get a little glimpse. Inside the school.

MTV: How was it to film scenes where you were influencing the emotions of those around you?

Rathbone: It was fun. I just played it very naturally, like, if you have these special powers — like Edward has the ability to read minds — it's not like he's going to [get overly dramatic] and go, "You're hungry!" No, it's a natural thing, like the human ability to smell or to hear is a natural ability. To affect the mental state of anyone around you [I depicted Jasper as] keeping it all right in the eyes. Just thinking it and transferring it through the eyes, which are the windows to the soul — even to the soulless.

MTV: And will it be clear to the audience that this emotion-manipulation is going on?

Rathbone: In "New Moon," when we see it? It's pretty obvious.

'Twilight' actor Taylor Lautner on Teen Vogue Cover

Young Hollywood Edition of Teen Vogue will be on stands September 8th is new moon wolfy Taylor Lautner on the cover which he speaks about being Jacob Black and the paparazzi.

According to Taylor, there is a very specific sort of girl who's going to sign up for what's become known to Twilight fans as Team Jacob. "If she likes having a really close friendship with a guy," he begins, "being able to tell him anything, and then having that friendship slowly transform into something more...." The seventeen-year-old stops himself and laughs. "I find myself using the word transform a lot lately," he explains, "because that's what Jacob does."

It's not exactly a spoiler to say that Taylor's character in November's New Moon is going through some intense changes. As everyone who's seen the movie's trailer or read the books knows, Jacob Black is now a werewolf. And the changes that Taylor himself underwent in order to keep the part—as he says, "hitting the gym, hiring a personal trainer, eating the right foods, and eating a lot of them"—were equally evident. When that first trailer premiered at the MTV Movie Awards, the live (and apparently largely female) audience responded to a two-second shot of Taylor, shirtless, by screaming like they were on a roller coaster. Not that he's about to let all that adulation go to his head. "I think the fans would love anybody who played Jacob," he says mildly, when the reception is mentioned. "I'm just lucky to be the one who got the chance."

Taylor got into acting via a somewhat circuitous path. As a kid growing up in Grand Rapids, Michigan, he started competing in a sport called Xtreme Martial Arts—which he describes as "almost like gymnastics, in that you do a routine, but there's a lot of kicks and punches and flips"—and he found that he was pretty good; by the time he retired, at thirteen, he was a four-time world champ. It was his Hollywood-based karate coach (a onetime blue Power Ranger) who suggested that Taylor give show business a chance. "At first," he recalls, "I wasn't interested, but he said I could stay at his house for a few weeks, meet with some agents, go on auditions. " By the end of that month, Taylor says, "I liked it. Taking on roles that were the opposite of what I could be in real life? That's still my favorite thing."

Now Taylor lives with his family an hour outside Los Angeles, although the distance does little to dissuade the paparazzi. "There are twelve cars that camp outside my house," he marvels. "You can't ever really get used to it, because it's not normal to have people snapping pictures of everything you do. You just have to try not to let it affect you." Tabloid attention and spurious rumors are the norm for the Twilight cast right now—Taylor and his costars are already hard at work on the third film, Eclipse. And he seems quite capable of taking it all in stride: Asked about his alleged early summer romance with Disney star Selena Gomez, he says, quite unperturbedly, "She's a great girl." Asked whether Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson are indeed entangled in a torrid love triangle, he just laughs. "It's crazy," he admits, "but the fans help. They're a big part of the motivation."

As if on cue, a pair of wide-eyed young sisters approach his table, looking ecstatic. "We're all Team Jacob in our house," their mother says. Taylor does have a point when he insists that people are reacting, in part, to the character he plays—these two are each clutching one of author Stephenie Meyer's dictionary-size tomes for him to autograph—but he's also being too humble. The girls are definitely old enough to understand that Taylor is a rising star, not a teen werewolf, and they still look pretty starstruck
